In our first episode, Bryce Butler of Access Ventures talks with Jean Case, the first female chairman of the National Geographic Society and CEO of the Case Impact Network and Case Foundation and the first female chairman of the National Geographic Society. They discuss the parts of her story that might not show up on her bio that have helped inform who she is and why she does what she does. For a woman from a town called Normal, her story has been far from normal. Bryce and Jean talk about her childhood, and the series of pivots and failures she faced before her career success, what new capitalism is, and what it means to her.

Jean Case has been a powerhouse since the early days of tech with her role as a senior executive at AOL and her roles in the private sector spanning nearly two decades before she co-founded the Case Foundation in 1997. In January 2019, her first book, Be Fearless: 5 Principles for a Life of Breakthroughs and Purpose, was published by Simon & Schuster and named a national bestseller.

Jean Case is a well known and established businesswoman, investor, and philanthropist who is a passionate believer in the power of business to do good. As the Chairwoman of the National Geographic Society and CEO of the Case Impact Network and Case Foundation, she has been able to steer major organizations towards a more conscious deployment of their assets. Bryce first met Jean Case at a Village Capital event in Salt Lake City back in 2015 and then again at a meeting in Detroit. Over the years, Bryce has had the pleasure to collaborate on various projects and has also been one of the many users of the great resources the Case Foundation has produced to build the impact investing field.
