Muted Flowers

Overview

We believe that the cultivation of smart, skilled, conceptually rich and beautiful art is essential for the health and development of individuals and communities. Therefore, we continued our effort in beautifying the Shelby Park neighborhood by installing our second mural that involved working with a designer and the community to bring it to life. The “Muted Flowers” mural was designed by Tyler Deeb, a local designer living in the Shelby Park neighborhood, and was painted and installed by people in the community. The mural was installed onto the side of the Bornstein Building Company facing one of the busiest streets in Shelby Park. The inspiration behind the mural was to provide a large, colorful mural that would bring beauty to an area that is often overlooked. The mural displays the perfect imperfections from all the different artists that participated in painting and installing the mural.

Over 200 volunteers participated in painting over 1,500 squares

Once the design was completed, we supplied all of the resources and partnered with local organizations and community leaders to help organize and recruit the community to come and paint the mural. Over a span of six weeks, we had over 200 volunteers participate in painting over 1,500 squares to bring this pixelated bouquet of flowers to life. People continue to regularly stop and experience the mural in an area of town that has often been overlooked by the outside community.

How We Helped

We commissioned Tyler Deeb to interpret and design a mural connected to the theme “Building Something Bigger Than Ourselves.” We then identified and requested permission to install the mural on the wall of the Bornstein Building Company.
